About Eliza

Eliza McGraw is the author of Here Comes Exterminator! as well as two academic books. Here Comes Exterminator! won the 2016 Tony Ryan Award for best book about horse racing. A contributing writer for EQUUS magazine, her articles have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Smithsonian.com. She has also contributed to The Chronicle of the Horse, The Blood-Horse, Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred, and Untacked. She's the researcher for the history podcast The Memory Palace. Eliza earned a B.A. in English from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. She lives in Washington, D.C., with her family and dogs, and keeps her horse in Potomac, Maryland.
